Hollywood superstar Zsa Zsa Gabor dies, age 99

The Film Doctor team send our love to the family, friends and spirit of Zsa Zsa Gabor, the Golden Globe-winning actress and Hollywood tittle tattle legend who has passed away at the age of 99.

Zsa Zsa was born in Budapest, Hungary on 6 February 1917 as Sari Gabor but quickly picked up the nickname Zsa Zsa. After initial interest in becoming a veterinarian she soon got whisked in to the world of show business by her own looks and some pressure from her mother.

She emigrated to America and soon became involved in theatre roles before making her screen debut in MGM musical Lovely to Look At in 1952. Her big break came in the shape of John Huston’s Moulin Rouge.

Zsa Zsa had had lots of drama off screen too. She was married nine times – including to actor George Sanders – and her mother once told her: “You don’t have to marry every man you sleep with.”

She was happy to lampoon her personality and reputation as a socialite though, making comedic self-deprecating appearances in Naked Gun 2 1/2: The Smell of Fear and The Beverly Hillbillies.
