According to BBC News “He died on Thursday at his home after a short time in hospital.” He was 95 years old.

His biographer Christopher Frayling told the BBC “He was a brilliant visualiser of worlds we will never be able to visit ourselves – the War Room under the Pentagon in Dr. Strangelove, the interior of Fort Knox in Goldfinger – all sorts of interiors which, as members of the public, we are never going to get to see, but he created an image of them that was more real than real itself.”

Ken was responsible for such magnificent designs as the war room in Strangelove, the car in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang as well as a whole host of Bond villain lairs. He won Academy Awards for his work on Barry Lyndon and The Madness of King George.
