Film Folk – we have a film competition for you.
Belle de Jour is available now as a newly restored 4k DVD, Blu-ray and digital download release to celebrate the film’s 50th anniversary and StudioCanal are offering two lucky Film Doctor readers the chance to win the Luis Buñuel classic on DVD.
Belle de Jour follows beautiful and reserved young housewife Séverine Serizy (Catherine Deneuve) who is dogged daily by masochistic sexual fantasies. Curious to explore these urges, she visits a brothel and soon becomes “Beauty of the Day”. Seemingly finding peace through satisfying her clients, things soon turn sour when Marcel (Michel Piccoli), a loutish regular, insists on having Séverine all to himself.
Panic-stricken, Séverine quits her dangerous day job but is it too late?
The film won the Golden Lion at the 1967 Venice Film Festival.
