INSIDE OUT‘s director Pete Docter: “Anyone out there who’s in junior high, high school, working it out, suffering….There are days you’re gonna feel sad, you’re gonna feel angry, you’re gonna be scared. That’s nothing you can choose, but you can make stuff. Make films. Draw. Write. It’ll make a world of difference.”
MAD MAX: FURY ROAD‘s editor Margaret Sixel: “It’s in the edit room that the film is finally forged…it’s the final rewrite. So I just want to salute my beloved picture department who are in Sydney, and all who work in post, who work with their hands, heads and most importantly, their hearts.”
Not only does this highlight – as with previous years – the importance of appreciating your team, but the significance of film editing. Once the script is shot, it’s gone!
ALICIA VIKANDER (when asked what advice she’d give to young women):
“You can actually do it. There have been so many doubts and they’re still there. Apparently a lot of things can be possible. Things that I would never, ever, ever have believed in and that’s because I’ve also had some incredible women supporting me. That’s what I’d say to young girls: just keep on doing it.”
In the Winner’s Conference LEONARDO DICAPRIO spoke proudly about his The Revenant director Alejandro G. Iñárritu and their success against the odds: “It’s incredible that two outsiders like Chivo [cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki] and Alejandro that came from Mexico and came to our industry, were firm in their beliefs artistically and here we have a two time winner and, with Chivo, a three time winner.”
