Fun Fridays – Director’s Favourite Films – Alfonso Cuaron

Hello Film Doctor friends.

With CG behemoth Gravity‘s UK release today, the Film Doctor team turn to Director Alfonso Cuaron (Y Tu Mama Tambien, Children of Men) for some space-themed cinematic picks. Rent/buy them and see what influenced this modern legend.

Here is Alfonso’s list:

(first featured in an interview for Barry Koltnow, McClacthy Tribune, 2013)

1. “Voyage to the Moon” (1902, dir. Geoges Melies)

2. “Woman in the Moon” (1929, dir. Fritz Lang)

3. “Marooned” (1969, dir. John Sturges) – Note: a remarkably prophetic film – it came out one year before the near-disaster flight of Apollo 13, when James Lovell and his two fellow astronauts almost died in space.

4. “Apollo 13” (1995, dir. Ron Howard)

5. “The Right Stuff” (1983, dir. Philip Kaufman)
